The -Maxxing Terms

Looksmaxxing

The practice of systematically improving your physical appearance through every available method — fitness, skincare, grooming, style, and potentially procedures. Combines "looks" with "maxing" (maximizing). The goal is becoming the best-looking version of yourself possible.

Softmaxxing

Non-invasive, reversible improvements that don't permanently alter your body. Includes fitness, skincare, grooming, style, posture, and lifestyle optimization. Where 90% of looksmaxxing results come from. Should always be maximized before considering hardmaxxing.

Examples: Getting lean, building muscle, skincare routine, proper haircut, mewing, better sleep

Hardmaxxing

Permanent or semi-permanent changes through medical procedures or surgery. Higher risk, higher cost, but can address issues softmaxxing cannot. Should only be considered after softmaxxing is fully optimized.

Examples: Rhinoplasty, jaw surgery, hair transplant, Botox, fillers, orthodontics

Gymmaxxing

Building an aesthetic physique through resistance training and nutrition. Focus on muscle development, body composition, and frame building. One of the highest-impact softmaxxing methods. Key supplements include creatine for strength and muscle gains, and pre-workout for training intensity.

Sleepmaxxing

Optimizing sleep quality and duration for appearance benefits. Poor sleep causes dark circles, puffy face, dull skin, muscle loss, and fat gain. Good sleep is foundational to all other looksmaxxing efforts. Magnesium glycinate and ashwagandha are popular supplements for improving sleep quality.

Leanmaxxing

Prioritizing low body fat percentage for maximum facial definition and muscle visibility. Getting lean reveals bone structure, sharpens the jawline, and improves overall aesthetics. Often the single highest-impact change for most people.

Bloatmaxxing

The opposite of leanmaxxing — carrying extra water weight and body fat that softens facial features. Usually unintentional, caused by high sodium, alcohol, poor sleep, or excess calories. Something to avoid, not pursue.

Heightmaxxing

Methods to appear taller or maximize height. Includes posture correction, shoe lifts/elevator shoes, and fashion choices that elongate the frame. Actual height cannot be changed in adults without extreme surgery.

Statusmaxxing

Improving perceived social status through career, wealth signals, social proof, and lifestyle. While not purely physical, status affects overall attractiveness and how others perceive you.

Moneymaxxing

Building wealth to fund appearance improvements and signal status. Related to statusmaxxing. The logic: more resources = more options for hardmaxxing, better clothes, better lifestyle.


Mogging Terms

Mogging

Dominating or overshadowing someone through superior physical appearance. When you "mog" someone, your looks are so much better that they make the other person look worse by comparison. From "AMOG" (Alpha Male Of Group).

Mog

Short form of mogging, used as a verb. "He mogs everyone in the room" = he's the best-looking person there.

Getting Mogged

Being on the receiving end of mogging — someone else's appearance makes yours look worse by comparison.

Height Mog

When someone is significantly taller, making others appear small. One of the most impactful forms of mogging because height is nearly impossible to change.

Face Mog

When someone has a significantly more attractive face — better bone structure, features, or skin. Standing next to them makes your face look worse by comparison.

Frame Mog

When someone has a larger, more muscular, or more athletic build. Wide shoulders, V-taper, and muscle development create frame mogging.

Hair Mog

When someone has significantly better hair — thicker, fuller, better hairline. Especially brutal because hair loss is common and difficult to reverse.

Style Mog

When someone's clothing, grooming, and presentation is significantly better. One of the most controllable forms of mogging.

Age Mog

When someone looks significantly younger than others their age. Good skin, full hair, and fitness can age mog people who look older.

AMOG

Alpha Male Of Group. The most dominant, attractive man in a social setting. Origin of the term "mogging." From pickup artist (PUA) communities in the 2000s.


Eye Area Terms

Hunter Eyes

The ideal eye shape: deep-set, almond-shaped, with minimal upper eyelid exposure and neutral or positive canthal tilt. Named after predatory animals with intense, forward-facing eyes. Associated with masculinity and attractiveness.

Prey Eyes

The opposite of hunter eyes: round, protruding, with significant upper eyelid exposure and potentially negative canthal tilt. Creates a wide, open, "surprised" appearance rather than an intense one.

Canthal Tilt

The angle of the eye measured from inner corner to outer corner. One of the most discussed features in looksmaxxing.

Positive Canthal Tilt (PCT)

When the outer corner of the eye is higher than the inner corner — the eye angles upward. Generally considered most attractive. Common in models.

Negative Canthal Tilt (NCT)

When the outer corner is lower than the inner corner — the eye angles downward. Can create a tired or sad appearance. Often a target for surgical correction.

Neutral Canthal Tilt

When inner and outer corners are level. Also considered attractive.

Upper Eyelid Exposure (UEE)

How much of the upper eyelid is visible when looking straight ahead. Less exposure = more hooded, hunter eye look. More exposure = more open, prey eye look.

Scleral Show

When the white of the eye (sclera) is visible below the iris. Typically considered unattractive — creates a "bug-eyed" appearance.

Orbital Rim

The bone surrounding the eye socket. Prominent orbital rims create a more deep-set eye appearance. Can be augmented with implants.

Infraorbital Rim

The bone directly under the eye. Weak infraorbital support can cause under-eye hollows and a less projected midface.

Brow Ridge

The bony ridge above the eyes. A prominent brow ridge creates natural "hooding" over the eyes — a masculine, hunter eye feature.


Facial Structure Terms

Mewing

A tongue posture technique: keeping the entire tongue pressed flat against the roof of the mouth. Named after Dr. Mike Mew. Claimed to improve jawline and facial structure, though evidence for bone changes in adults is limited. Can improve posture and reduce double chin appearance.

Maxilla

The upper jaw bone. Its forward projection significantly affects midface appearance. "Good maxilla" = forward-grown midface with prominent cheekbones. "Recessed maxilla" = flat midface, less attractive profile.

Mandible

The lower jaw bone. Its shape, size, and angle affect jawline definition and profile.

Forward Growth

Facial development where bones grow forward rather than downward. Associated with attractive facial structure — wide palate, prominent cheekbones, strong chin. The Mews claim modern lifestyle (soft food, mouth breathing) reduces forward growth.

Lower Third

The bottom third of the face — jaw and chin area. In looksmaxxing, often considered the most important facial zone. A strong lower third = defined jawline, good chin projection.

Gonial Angle

The angle of the jaw where the mandible turns from horizontal to vertical. A sharper (more acute) gonial angle creates a more defined, angular jawline.

Ramus

The vertical part of the jawbone (mandible) that connects to the skull. Long ramus = more vertically developed jaw, often considered attractive.

Gonion

The corner point of the jaw where the ramus meets the body of the mandible. Visible gonions create the "square jaw" look.

Zygomatic Bones / Zygos

The cheekbones. High, prominent zygomatic bones create the "model cheekbones" look and contribute to facial width and harmony.

Facial Harmony

How well facial features work together proportionally. Good features in isolation can still look off if they don't harmonize. Facial harmony often matters more than any single feature.

Facial Thirds

The face divided into three horizontal zones: upper third (hairline to brow), middle third (brow to nose base), lower third (nose base to chin). Ideally should be roughly equal in length.

Philtrum

The vertical groove between the nose and upper lip. Shorter philtrum is generally considered more attractive; a long philtrum can make the midface appear elongated.

Chin Projection

How far forward the chin extends. Good chin projection creates a balanced profile. Recessed chin (weak chin) can be addressed with implants or sliding genioplasty.

Midface

The middle portion of the face, primarily the maxilla and cheekbones. Midface ratio (length vs. width) affects perceived attractiveness.

Interpupillary Distance (IPD)

The distance between the centers of the pupils. Affects facial proportions and how other features appear.


Rating and Classification Terms

PSL

Rating scale used in looksmaxxing communities, typically 1-10. Named after forums (PUAHate, Sluthate, Lookism). More "objective" than typical 1-10 ratings — a PSL 6 is considered solidly above average, PSL 7+ is model-tier.

Halo

A positive feature that elevates overall appearance. One great feature can create a "halo effect" that makes your entire face appear more attractive. Example: striking eye color, perfect jawline, great hair.

Failo

A negative feature that drags down overall appearance — the opposite of halo. One bad feature can undermine otherwise good looks. Example: severe acne, recessed chin, very asymmetrical features.

Norwood Scale

Classification system for male pattern baldness, numbered 1-7. Norwood 1 = full head of hair. Norwood 7 = only hair on sides and back. Commonly referenced when discussing hair loss treatments.

Gigachad

Internet term for an extremely attractive, hyper-masculine man. Often refers to the digitally enhanced model Ernest Khalimov. Used both seriously and as a meme to describe ideal male aesthetics.

Chadlite

Above average attractiveness but not quite "Chad" tier. Typically PSL 5.5-6.5. Good-looking but not head-turning.

Chad

Internet slang for a very attractive, successful man. In looksmaxxing, typically refers to PSL 7+ with strong bone structure, height, and overall genetics.


Techniques and Methods

Mewing

Hard Mewing

Forceful, intense version of mewing with strong tongue pressure. Generally not recommended — can cause TMJ issues and headaches. Regular gentle mewing is preferred.

Bonesmashing

Hitting or applying blunt force to facial bones with the claimed goal of remodeling them. Pseudoscience and dangerous. Can cause injury, swelling, and nerve damage. Does not work. Do not do this.

Chewing

Using hard gum (mastic gum, falim gum) to build masseter muscles for a wider jaw appearance. Has some legitimate effect on jaw muscle size, though results are modest. Mastic gum is the most popular choice due to its hardness and additional health benefits.

Mastic Gum

A natural resin from the mastic tree (Pistacia lentiscus), native to the Greek island of Chios. Used for jawline training because it's significantly harder than regular gum (around 10x harder). Requires 2-3 hours of chewing daily for results. Also has digestive and oral health benefits.

Falim Gum

A Turkish chewing gum that's harder than regular gum but softer than mastic. Good for beginners starting jawline training. Cheaper than mastic gum but doesn't have the same health benefits.

Chin Tuck

Posture exercise: pulling the chin straight back to correct forward head posture. Improves neck posture and jaw-neck angle. Different from mewing but often practiced together.

Face Pulling

Techniques claiming to pull the maxilla forward through manual pressure or devices. Limited evidence in adults. Related to orthotropic theory.

Thumb Pulling

Using thumbs on the palate to attempt maxilla expansion. Popular in some communities but evidence is lacking for significant results in adults.


Supplement Terms

Creatine

The most researched sports supplement. Increases strength, muscle mass, and workout performance. Also supports cognitive function and may reduce face bloating in some users by improving cellular hydration. Safe for long-term use. Take 3-5g daily.

Ashwagandha

An adaptogenic herb that reduces cortisol (stress hormone) and may boost testosterone. Popular in looksmaxxing for reducing stress-related facial bloating, improving sleep quality, and supporting muscle growth. Take 300-600mg daily of standardized extract.

Magnesium

Essential mineral for sleep, muscle recovery, and stress management. Most people are deficient. Magnesium glycinate is the preferred form for sleep and relaxation — better absorbed and gentler on the stomach than other forms.

Vitamin D3

Critical for testosterone production, bone health, and immune function. Most people are deficient, especially those who spend time indoors. Take 2,000-5,000 IU daily, ideally with K2 for better absorption.

Zinc

Supports testosterone production, skin health, and immune function. Important for acne prevention. Take 15-30mg daily — avoid mega-dosing as it can interfere with copper absorption.

Collagen Peptides

Protein that supports skin elasticity, joint health, and hair/nail growth. Some evidence for skin hydration benefits. Take 10-15g daily, typically in powder form mixed with liquid.

Beta Carotene

A carotenoid that gives skin a healthy, golden glow when taken consistently. Popular for achieving a natural "tan" appearance without sun exposure. Take 25,000-50,000 IU daily. Results visible after 4-8 weeks.

Pre-Workout

Supplement taken before training for increased energy, focus, and performance. Typically contains caffeine, beta-alanine, and other performance-enhancing ingredients. Supports gymmaxxing efforts.

Body Terms

Frame

Overall skeletal structure and width, particularly shoulders. "Good frame" = broad shoulders, narrow waist. "Small frame" = narrow shoulders, less visual presence. Partially genetic but muscle building can improve it.

V-Taper

The aesthetic ideal of wide shoulders tapering to a narrow waist, creating a V-shape. Built through shoulder/back development and staying lean.

Clavicle Length

Length of the collarbones. Longer clavicles = wider shoulders and frame. Genetic and cannot be changed.

Wrist Size

Used as an indicator of overall frame size. Larger wrist circumference typically correlates with larger bone structure throughout the body.

Body Fat Percentage

The proportion of your body mass that is fat. For men, 10-15% reveals muscle definition and facial structure. For women, 18-24% is typically athletic. One of the most important looksmaxxing metrics.

Face Fat

Fat stored in the face, obscuring bone structure. Reduced through overall fat loss (caloric deficit). Cannot be spot-reduced with exercises. Major focus in looksmaxxing.

Buccal Fat

Fat pads in the cheeks that create facial roundness. Can be surgically removed (buccal fat removal) for a more sculpted look. Naturally reduces with age in some people.

Water Retention

Excess water held in tissues, causing puffiness (especially in the face). Caused by high sodium, alcohol, poor sleep, or hormonal factors. Often mistaken for fat. Can be reduced quickly through lifestyle changes.


Hair Terms

Norwood Scale

See above under Rating Terms. Classification of male pattern baldness stages 1-7.

Hairline

The edge of hair growth on the forehead. A low, straight hairline is generally considered ideal. Recession typically starts at the temples (widow's peak pattern).

Crown

The top/back of the head. Common area for hair thinning. "Thinning crown" is a sign of progressing hair loss.

Temple Recession

Hairline receding at the temples, creating an M-shape. Early sign of male pattern baldness.

Minoxidil

Topical medication (Rogaine) that promotes hair growth. Over-the-counter. Takes 3-6 months to see results. Must be used continuously or gains are lost.

Finasteride

Prescription medication (Propecia) that blocks DHT, the hormone causing male pattern baldness. More effective than minoxidil but has potential side effects. Requires doctor prescription.

Dermarolling / Microneedling

Using tiny needles on the scalp to stimulate hair growth. Often combined with minoxidil for enhanced results.

Hair Transplant

Surgical procedure moving hair follicles from donor area (usually back of head) to balding areas. Permanent but expensive ($5,000-$15,000+). Hardmaxxing option for hair loss.


Skin Terms

Retinoid / Retinol

Vitamin A derivatives that increase skin cell turnover. Tretinoin (prescription) is the gold standard for anti-aging and acne. Retinol (over-the-counter) is gentler but still effective. Essential in advanced skincare routines for texture improvement, anti-aging, and acne prevention.

Hyperpigmentation

Dark spots or uneven skin tone from sun damage, acne scars, or inflammation. Treated with vitamin C, niacinamide, retinoids, and sunscreen.

Skin Texture

The smoothness or roughness of skin surface. Improved through exfoliation, retinoids, and hydration.

Collagen

Protein that gives skin structure and firmness. Production decreases with age, causing wrinkles and sagging. Retinoids and certain treatments can boost collagen production.

Submental Fat

Fat under the chin creating a "double chin." Reduced through overall fat loss or procedures like Kybella or liposuction.


Procedure Terms

Rhinoplasty

Nose job. Surgical reshaping of the nose. One of the most common hardmaxxing procedures. Can address size, shape, bumps, or tip.

Blepharoplasty

Eyelid surgery. Removes excess skin/fat from upper or lower eyelids. Can reduce upper eyelid exposure and create a more hooded look.

Canthoplasty

Surgery to adjust the canthal tilt by repositioning the outer corner of the eye. Can create a more positive tilt and almond shape.

Genioplasty

Chin surgery. Sliding genioplasty moves the chin bone; implants add projection. Addresses weak or recessed chin.

Orthognathic Surgery / Jaw Surgery

Surgical repositioning of the jaws. Addresses severe bite issues and can dramatically change facial structure. Major surgery with long recovery.

Implants (Facial)

Silicone or other material placed to enhance facial structure. Common areas: chin, jaw angle, cheekbones. Permanent hardmaxxing option.

Fillers

Injectable substances (usually hyaluronic acid) that add volume to face. Temporary (6-18 months). Used for lips, cheeks, chin, jawline, under-eyes.

Botox

Injectable that relaxes muscles to reduce wrinkles. Also used for masseter reduction (slimming jaw). Temporary (3-4 months).


Slang and Culture Terms

Glow Up

A significant improvement in appearance over time. More mainstream term for looksmaxxing transformation. "He had a major glow up."

Mogger

Someone who mogs others. A very attractive person who makes others look worse by comparison.

Aura

Your overall vibe, presence, and energy. How you carry yourself beyond physical features. Confidence, body language, and charisma contribute to aura.

Looksmaxxer

Someone who practices looksmaxxing. A person actively working to improve their appearance.

Ascension

Significant improvement in looks, status, or dating success. "He ascended after losing weight and fixing his style."

Maxxed Out

Having optimized an area to its limit. "His skincare is maxxed out" = can't improve much further in that category.

Cope

A belief or behavior that helps someone deal with something negative. "It's just cope" = it's a rationalization that doesn't address reality.

Rope

Dark slang referring to suicide. If you encounter this term being used seriously, encourage the person to seek help. Not appropriate for actual use.
